Whole Body Vibration
Whole Body Vibration (WBV): WBV was originally developed for patients
with osteoporosis and has come into wide use in Europe as an instrument
for increasing bone density in Europe since 2000. A lot of research has
been done over the last 10 years showing that use of WBV has positive
effects on improving physical performance, energy metabolism, blood
flow, enhances muscle function, bone density, and decreasing body fat
mass, etc
Most WBV units operate on up and down vertical movements which has been shown to
stimulate growth plates, improve blood vessel circulation as well as causing
muscle fibers to contract and relax repeatedly enhancing muscle strength.
Training with WBV has been shown to acutely enhance strength, performance, and
power capabilities even in well-trained people. Other long-term benefits include
increased growth and male hormones, improved bone density and strength, motor
control, balance, relief of chronic pain, and increased blood circulation.
WBV is also a viable alternative for sedentary, elderly, and obese individuals
as no effort is involved and no complicated techniques to master. "WBV can
be used as an effective exercise intervention for reducing the actions of the
aging processes of skeletal muscles." A, Viru, University of Tartu, Estonia.
WBV work by emanating vibrations from the pedestal which is conducted throughout
the body stimulating muscle fibers with three times the strength of gravity,
causing muscle fibers to contract and relax with greater strength and speed;
such powerful muscle contractions, when repeated with frequency seen in WBV
exercise, enhance muscle strength over a shorter period of time than is feasible
with any form of muscle training.
WBV can also be a very gentle form of exercise for not only the elderly, but the
sedentary, osteoporotic, osteoarthritic, cancer, weakened populations as well
as those recovering from injury in a rehab setting.
